DRUG ARREST AFTER CRASH

ACCUSED: Karlton D. Meyers, Age 42 of Tinton Falls

NARRATIVE
     On 12/8/2007 at approximately 7:12 pm, police responded to the intersection of Deal Road and Poplar Road in reference to a motor vehicle crash. A 2002 Chrysler being operated by Karlton D. Meyers was traveling east on Deal Road. Karlton, who was using a cell phone at the time, lost control of his vehicle and struck the front of a 2003 Toyota that was traveling west on Deal Road. Karlton’s vehicle then sideswiped a 2004 Dodge Pick Up that was also traveling west on Deal Road. Karlton suffered a minor injury to his face. The driver of the Toyota and the driver of the Pick up truck were not injured. A 2-year-old child that was a passenger in the Toyota was taken to Monmouth Medical as a precautionary measure.
     While Officers were investigating the crash, Karlton, who was found to be driving while intoxicated, was also in possession of cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana. Karlton was subsequently arrested on scene and taken to Monmouth Medical Center for a blood test. He was then taken to OTPD for further processing. Police also seized $3170.00 along with the drugs under state criminal forfeiture guidelines.
     Karlton was charged with Possession of Cocaine with intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving While Intoxicated. He was also issued traffic violations for Possessing Drugs in Motor Vehicle, Consuming an Alcoholic Beverage While in a Motor Vehicle, Possessing a Open Container of an Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Using a Cell Phone while operating a vehicle. He was later transported to Monmouth County Jail on $25,000.00 bail.
