LOCATION: Ocean Township Council Meeting
NARRATIVE:
The Ocean Township Police Explorer Post was recently
honored at the July 23 Township Council Meeting. The Post was recognized for
completing one thousand hours of community service to Ocean Township and the
surrounding communities. They have participated in events such as the Ocean
Township Festival, the 4th of July Celebration, the Ocean Township Memorial
Day Parade, and the Belmar St. Patrick's Day Parade along with many other
local events. Members have received certifications in CPR and have been
trained as Emergency First Responders. They have also won several awards at
the New Jersey State Academy for Police Explorers.
The Post has 21 active members ranging from ages 14 to
20. The Post police officer advisors are Sgt. Brendan Bruther, Officer
Douglas Willms and Officer John Green along with civilian advisor Steve
Brown.
Each year, the Police Explorers conduct a fund drive to
raise money for the post during the Ocean Township Festival. The Explorers
recently started a memorial scholarship fund in memory of Nicole Moore, a
police explorer member who was tragically killed in a car crash in 2006. A
portion of the contributions collected during the fund drive will be
dedicated to the Nicole Moore scholarship fund.
