NARRATIVE:
On 6/28/07 at approximately 12:59 pm, police were called to the parking lot in front of the Wayside 7-11 store in reference to a theft of a pocketbook from a vehicle. Officer Kevin Redmond arrived on scene and located the victim, a 28-year-old female from Ocean Township. Further investigation revealed that while the victim was inside the 7-11 store she observed a 15-year-old male juvenile enter her vehicle through an open window and remove her pocketbook. Upon seeing this, the victim ran out after the juvenile and began struggling with him to get the pocketbook back. The juvenile managed to get into a black 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee while still struggling with the victim, The Jeep was being operated by a 17-year-old female from Wall Township who was accompanied by adult male sitting in the passenger seat. The victim was then pulled into the Jeep Cherokee as it began to drive away. The Jeep then stopped due to traffic in the parking lot and the victim was able to exit the vehicle. The 15-year-old male and the adult also exited the Jeep and fled the scene. The victim was able to obtain the license plate number of the Jeep and provide it to police. A short time later, Detective Paul Flammia located the Jeep on West Park Ave near the Towne Shoppe’s. The 17-year-old female was subsequently taken into custody. The victim did suffer a minor injury to her knee as a result of the struggle. She refused medical treatment at the scene. A K-9 Unit from the Long Branch Police was called to the scene to assist but was unsuccessful in locating the two that fled.
The 15-year-old was later identified and found at his home in Tinton Falls. He was taken into custody. Both the 17-year-old female and the 15-year-old male were taken to the Monmouth County Youth Detention Center on Charges of Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. An arrest warrant has been issued for the adult, identified as Jeffrey Tyler 18-years-old with a last known address in Tinton Falls. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact Detective Paul Flammia at 732-531-1800.
