NARRATIVE:
On 6/11/07 at approximately 10:07 pm, police were
called to the parking lot of an apartment building located in the Twinbrook
Apartment complex in reference to the robbery and assault of a cab driver.
Sgt. Brendan Bruther along with Officers Thomas Thompson, Trevor Dickerson
and Bryan Morgan responded to the scene. When the officers arrived they
found the cab driver, identified as a 30-year-old male from Ocean Township,
with serious injuries to his head and face.
The cab driver had been dropping off two male Hispanic
subjects that he had picked up from Asbury Park. When he went to collect the
fare for the cab ride the two subjects refused to pay. An altercation
followed and the two subjects and at least three other Hispanic males who
were present in the lot at the time began to assault the cab driver. The cab
driver was held down and struck about his head and face. A brief description
of the assailants was provided and one of the subjects involved was found
hiding in a vestibule of the apartment building. He was identified as Victor
Hugo Delgado Vazquez, Age 29 of Belmar. Vasquez was also identified as one
of the two passengers in the cab that refused to pay the fare. He was
arrested and taken to the Ocean Township Police station for processing. The
cab driver was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.
Vazquez was charged with Robbery and Conspiracy to
Commit Robbery. He was later transported to the Monmouth County Jail on
$100,000.00 bail. Police are still seeking the other four subjects who
participated in the assault on the cab driver. Anyone who may have witnessed
the incident is asked to contact Detective Patrick Martin at 732-531-1800.
