CHECK FRAUD ARREST

DATE/TIME: 3-21-2008
LOCATION: Provident Bank, Middlebrook Plaza
OFFICERS INVOLVED: Jeffrey Malone and Detective Patrick Martin
ACCUSED: Brenda L. Foster, Age 50 of Asbury Park.

NARRATIVE
On 3-21-08 at approximately 2:26 pm, police were called to the Provident Bank located in the Middlebrook shopping plaza in reference to a female patron attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Officer Jeffrey Malone and Detective Patrick Martin responded to the bank. Further investigation revealed that the patron, Brenda L. Foster, signed a check found to be fraudulent by bank employees and attempted to cash it. The check was in the amount of $65,000.00. The check was determined to be originally from Nigeria and was forwarded to Canada and then to Foster. Diligent work by bank employees determined that the check was not authentic and had been fraudulently issued. Police also learned that back in February Foster attempted to deposit another check in her account in the amount of $1750.00 at the same bank. Foster was turned away by bank employees in that incident after they determined the check was not authentic.
Foster was arrested on scene and transported to OTPD for further processing. She was charged with endorsing a fraudulent check and uttering a forged document. She was later released on a criminal summons.
