UNDERAGE DRINKING PARTY

ACCUSED: Joseph A. Pepe, Age 21 of Stirling, NJ.
Peter J. Cardella, Age 20 of Belmar, NJ.

NARRATIVE
     On 1/30/08 at approximately 2:27 am, Officer Scott Valenti was on patrol in the area of Norwood Ave in the Oakhurst section of the township. Valenti observed a large group of individuals in the street holding beer cans and cups of beer near a residence. These individuals appeared to be under the legal age to consume beer. Valenti was then assisted by Officers Thomas Thompson, Sonia Henriques, Daniel Weber, Luke Sciallo and Lt. William Newman. Further investigation revealed that the persons renting the residence, Joseph Pepe and Peter Cardella, were Monmouth University students hosting a party where underage drinking was taking place. Officers observed two empty beer kegs in the back of house and numerous partially consumed and empty beer cups throughout the house. One partygoer, an 18-year-old female, was so intoxicated that she had to be taken to the hospital by the Oakhurst First Aid Squad. Officers subsequently took Joseph Pepe and Peter Cardella into custody for providing alcoholic beverages to persons under the legal age. They were taken to OTPD for further processing. In addition, officers also issued township ordinance violations to thirty-two (32) partygoers for consuming alcoholic beverages on private property while under the legal age. They were all released at the scene and they were identified as follows:

     Pepe and Cardella were each charged with Providing Alcoholic Beverages to Persons Under the Legal Age. Cardella was also issued a township ordinance violation for consuming alcoholic beverages on private property while under the legal age. They were both later released on a criminal summons.
