DATE/TIME: 1/8/2008
LOCATION: Wayside School, Bowne Road
OFFICERS INVOLVED: Kathleen Delanoy and Timothy Macom
ACCUSED: Lee Ann Nastasi, Age 47 of Bayville, NJ.
NARRATIVE
On 1/8/2008 at 4:35 pm, police were called to the
Wayside School on Bowne Road in reference to a vehicle that was driving
recklessly through the parking lot and then crashed into a wooded area
adjacent to the school field. Principal David Enderly observed the vehicle,
a 2001 White Volkswagen Convertible, enter the driveway exit where it was
clearly marked “Do Not Enter”. The Volkswagen which was traveling at a
relatively slow speed drove around the parking lot through the bus drop off
area while striking several of the curbs. The Volkswagen then proceeded west
out of the parking lot where it drove across the school field and
subsequently crashed into a wooded area. Officers Timothy Macom and Kathleen
Delanoy arrived at the scene and found the driver, identified as Lee Ann
Nastasi, uninjured from the crash but highly intoxicated. She was also found
to be in possession of a bottle of open liquor while in the vehicle. Due to
Nastasi’s highly intoxicated state she was taken to Jersey Shore Medical
Center for a blood alcohol test. There were students and faculty attending
various after school activities at the school when the incident occurred.
Nastasi was charged with Driving While Intoxicated on
School Property, Reckless Driving and Possessing an Open Alcoholic Beverage
in a Vehicle.
