As of October 15, 2009 Monmouth County will no  longer recycle household batteries, with  the exception of button batteries, those used in various electronic equipment. These batteries, with the exception of the button batteries can now be placed in the regular household trash.

The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation will accept rechargeable household batteries in special collection boxes  provided in many retail outlets.
