A swearing in ceremony will be held at the Ocean Township High School at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 for the Township's new Police Chief, Steven R. Peters; Captain Michael Resetar and Captain Earl Gifford.
Chief Peters was promoted to the rank of Chief effective March 1, 2012. He joined the department in August 1987. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1997 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2005. He has served as a supervisor in various units of the Police Department during his career including the Patrol Bureau, Traffic Bureau, Administrative Division and Criminal Investigation Bureau. He has been assigned to the Criminal Investigation Unit since 2006.
Chief Peters holds a Bachelors Degree from Wagner College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the New Jersey Certified Public Manager program.
Also promoted were Lieutenant Michael Resetar and Lieutenant Earl Gifford, both to the rank of Captain. These promotions were also effective March 1, 2012.
Captain Resetar joined the department in May 1986. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1998 and to the rank of Lieutenant in 2005. He has served as a supervisor in both the Patrol Bureau and the Administrative Division. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is in the process of completing a Master’s Degree program at Fairleigh Dickinson. Captain Resetar is also a graduate of the New Jersey Certified Public Manager program.
Captain Gifford joined the department in January 1986. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1999 and the rank of Lieutenant in 2006. He served as a supervisor in the Patrol Bureau and the Criminal Investigation Bureau and is a graduate of the New Jersey Certified Public Manager program.
