HURRICANE IRENE UPDATE
JCP&L has informed us that they have restored power to 1075 of their Ocean Township customers with another approximately 150 remaining without power. At this time, they expect power to be fully restored to many by tomorrow, Thursday, September 1, with the restoration project being completed by Friday, Sept. 2.
In some instances, the electric company is having to call in Verizon if telephone poles or wires are part of the equation.
The following additional information has been provided for those still without power:
Call them at 1-888-54404877 to report your outage - it's the fastest way to begin the restoration process.
Water and Ice is available to those without power in our area at the Foodtown on Hwy. 35 in Oakhurst.
Avoid opening the refrigerator or freezer. A full freezer can keep food frozen for up to three days if it's kept closed.
Unplug major appliances until after the power has been restored. Keep one light connects so you will know when the power is back on.
Burning candles should never be left unattended.
Outdoor grills and gasoline-powered generators should never be run inside a home or attached garage.
The following information has been provided for all customers
JCP&L tree contractors NEVER ask customers for money to clear downed trees and branches as part of our storm restoration process. There are reports of individuals posing as JCP&L contractors to remove trees, pocketing money, and leaving. Please remain vigilant and refuse to pay onayone who claims to be clearing trees on their behalf.
JCP&L warns that individuals attempting to steal downed wires for copper are jeopardizing their own safety and that of the public, as well as hampering the storm restoration process. We urge residents to be on the lookout for wire theft in their communities.
