Dissociative Anesthetics

Although often mistaken for hallucinogenic drugs, Dissociative Anesthetics are a very different class of drugs. Dissociative Anesthetics are drugs which reduce (or block) signals to the conscious mind from other parts of the brain, typically by causing distortions in visual or auditory perception. Such a state of sensory deprivation can facilitate self exploration. Hallucinations and dreamlike states of mind may resemble some psychedelic mind states. That said, the entire experience, risks and benefits are markedly different.
